The Wildhorse Foundation Awards Funds to Support Renovation of Historic Stained Glass Windows at Catherine Creek Community Center

Press Release 7/6/2023

Grant Awarded to Support Renovation of Historic Stained Glass Windows at Catherine Creek Community Center

Union, Oregon - The Wildhorse Foundation, an organization associated with the tribal government of the Confederated Tribes of Umatilla Indian Reservation, has granted funds to facilitate the restoration of the Catherine Creek Community Center's cherished stained glass windows The Wildhorse Foundation supports projects in the areas of the Arts, Cultural Activities, Education, Environmental Protection, Gambling Addiction Prevention, Education and Treatment, Historic Preservation, Public Health, Public Safety, and Salmon Restoration.

The contribution recognizes the significant historical and cultural value of the stained glass windows located at the Catherine Creek Community Center, formerly known as the Union United Methodist Church in Union, Oregon. The grant, along with additional funding streams, will be instrumental in ensuring the successful restoration and revitalization of these remarkable architectural treasures.

The historic stained glass window renovation project is multifaceted. Phase one costs are estimated at $53,000 and will include additional funding from The Ford Family Foundation. The Catherine Creek Community Center is also actively raising funds through an innovative "Adopt a Window" program, a recent music festival, and color book sales. These initiatives provide opportunities for community members and supporters to contribute to the restoration efforts and become personally involved in preserving the cultural heritage of the community center.

The "Adopt a Window" program allows individuals, families, or businesses to symbolically "adopt" a specific stained glass window by making a financial contribution. Participants will receive recognition for their contribution, such as a plaque near the adopted window or a mention in promotional materials. By participating in this program, donors become an integral part of the restoration project and contribute to the preservation of local history. Furthermore, the Catherine Creek Community Center is excited to offer a unique color book featuring intricate illustrations of stained glass windows from religious settings.

The Wildhorse Foundation was established January 1, 2001 for the purpose of formalizing charitable giving on behalf of the Wildhorse Resort & Casino and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. Funds from the Wildhorse Foundation are used for education, public health, public safety, gambling addiction prevention, the arts, environmental protection, cultural activities, salmon restoration, and historic preservation. Grants are awarded on a quarterly basis with deadlines on January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1.  For more information, visit TheWildhorseFoundation.com.
